March National Brain Injury Awareness Month, a month dedicated to shining light on traumatic brain injury (TBI), providing support for people living with TBI, and increasing funding for research into treatments for this often debilitating condition.

Traumatic brain injury often comes with a diverse range of emotional, psychological, and physical consequences. These can include:

  • Headache, blurred vision, and ear ringing
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Dizziness and vertigo
  • Memory and concentration problems
  • Aggression and combativeness
  • Depression and anxiety

In some cases, symptoms will immediately follow an injury, but some of the symptoms of TBI may take days or even weeks to manifest. It is important that you seek medical attention any time to strike your head to make sure proper treatment is provided when damage is done.

Treating brain injury quickly is imperative for long-term positive outcomes. Damage to the brain cannot be reversed but, when caught quickly, it can be stopped before more damage is done.

Treating TBI

While damage to the brain is permanent, neuroplasticity allows the brain to rewire itself to restore lost function. This is often a long and laborious process and success is never guaranteed, but there is a path to recovery for those who can afford it. Being able to afford it is key.

The estimated lifetime cost of TBI ranges from $85,0000 to $3 million depending on the age of the victim and other factors unique to the case. Insurance may provide coverage for some of the expenses related to TBI recovery, but it is unlikely to cover all. Taking legal action is often the only way to get the full compensation you are due.

At Kelleher Law, our attorneys understand how devastating TBI can be for individuals and their families. We are prepared to take viable cases as far as necessary to help victims of TBI get fair and full compensation.
